Unknown Facts Concerning Concrete Pavers

Interesting Facts About Pavers

You will more than likely know you can use concrete pavers to create the likes of a patio, flower planters, etc. However, there is so much more to these stones than meets the eye. Below are some interesting facts about pavers that you may not even know about. Understanding more about this building material could help you to think up new and unique projects that you can use them for.

You Don’t Have to Use Just One Size or Shape

Pavers can be mixed and matched to create different patterns and shapes. You don’t have to stick to just one paver for your project. You can use different sizes, connect different shaped pavers together, and mix in different colors. With a little ingenuity, you’ll find that almost all pavers can be used together in whatever way you want.

They’re Old

Pavers are not a new idea. In fact, they have been around for centuries. They are seen in China, Europe, South America, and almost every part of the world, with the obvious exception of the North Pole and Antarctica, duh. The Roman Empire was, again, the first to use pavers on their roads. They created miles of roads spanning across Europe using them, some of which are still in existence today.

You Can Create Artwork

Portuguese Pavement is used to describe the pathways and patios found in Portugal and other areas of the world. These are pure artwork, as the artists used different colors and sizes to create scenes, portraits, and other images. In Lisbon’s Rossio Square, they were also used to create the illusion of motion. If you Google it, you will see how the light and dark pavers were laid, as it appears that the ground is rising and dipping. Portugal’s University of Coimbra has a massive paver patio that is the university’s seal. While you may not want to go quite into that amount of detail, you can still create some amazing images out of pavers.
